Winter Storm

18 Sweet Notes
Snow storm just started when I took this photo an hour ago.

All plans for today were cancelled because of the bad weather.  Right now, we have a severe winter storm warning, that according to the weather forecast, will be in effect until 12AM CST Friday.  We were supposed to take our two boys to their doctor for their wellness check-up, but I had to call in to reschedule the appointment to next week.  It's not looking good outside, and driving in this kind of weather would be really tough.

My husband is still at work right now, but he said he will try to get off work early today because he's worried that if he stayed longer, getting home would be impossible later on.  I already saw two plow trucks plowed the street outside.  And I think I'll be seeing another one here soon because the snow is coming down pretty good.  But in spite of how bad the weather is, it actually looks pretty outside.  It's so white and it really does feel winter to me.  We haven't had this much snow this winter yet, and I'm just glad we're getting it now.

Don't you find it weird that I actually am loving this winter storm right now?  (Hehehe.)  I am actually being tempted to step outside right now and play in the snow.  But, I'll wait till there's more snow on the ground. And, I mean A LOT.

By the way, what's with Thursday?  This has been the second Thursday in a row that we're getting hit a bad by winter weather.  Last week (Thursday), when I had my OB appointment, it was snowing and very cold, too.  The only day last week when the temperature was at its lowest, and it snowed.  And today, it's even worse.  Oh well, at least I'm seeing a lot of snow now.  That, I cannot complain.  I honestly thought this would be the most "dry" winter.  I always say, as long as we don't experience any power outage, I don't even mind if we get hit by a blizzard again, just like what happened two years ago.  I would love to experience that once more.  (I hope I just didn't jinx that!)

Anyway, I need to get some chores done while the kiddos are taking their nap.  Well, I'll be back later... If not, tomorrow..

Maybe Next Winter?

Leave A Note
We are experiencing a really weird weather this year.  Looks like this is the first year, in a very long time, this place hasn't had snow yet till now. It's almost in the middle of December, and it feels just like spring.  I'm kind of sad because I really do want to experience a white Christmas this year.  Although I really am not looking forward to celebrating Christmas, I just want it to snow.  I know I have said it so many times before, that I hate it when it gets too cold because I am not used to it, but I didn't mean for it to actually not totally snow when we're already supposed to be getting some.  What is going on in the world?  It seems like it's changing every year - and the change is actually scaring me.

Anyway, I was kind of hoping to get a really nice winter coat this year since I really haven't bought one before.  I decided to hold off because I was pregnant during the first winter, and last year, I still had some "baby weight" left, so I chose not to buy something yet.  I didn't want to go for a bigger size coat knowing that I could still lose some pounds, which I had, that's why I'm glad I held off when I did.  I was looking forward to getting one this year, but looks like I might not be needing it at all.  Too bad because I was looking at this  patagonia tres parka coat, and it's really nice and durable one.  I know it's a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for.  I mean, it's perfect for the coldest times of the year because it's waterproof and windproof.  And the Wind Chill factor during winter?  Oh, that's the killer right there!  The wind is what makes it even more colder, especially when it's snowing, that's why a really nice coat is a must.  And if you want a nice one, you know you have to really spend on it.  But, I honestly think it's not splurging money if you want to buy something nice because you actually need it, not because you just want to have it for other purposes.

Well, if not now, maybe some other time.  Or, I can still go ahead and get one and just hold on to it till I need it.  Yet again, maybe not.  For the meantime, I'll settle with what I have.  Anyway, like what I said, we still haven't had snow yet, and looks like we're not be getting any, so I really am not worried about going out in layers of clothes right now.  We'll see here in the next couple of weeks, though.

Weird Weather and the Change in Temperatue

Leave A Note

Weather here has been weird in the last couple of days, and so is the temperature.  Mornings can be very cold even if the sun is up.  But as the day progresses, it'll get gloomy and windy, but warmer, then, back to being cold again by the end of the day.  Believe it or not, just on Sunday, the temperature went up to 70 degree F - yes, in the middle of November!  I saw a lot of our neighbors jogging and walking around in shorts, T-shirts, and tank tops, as if it was summertime.  It stayed like that till probably 5 in the afternoon, and then, the temperature dropped down drastically to almost 40 degree F.  The forecast even said it was going to snow that day, but it didn't happen.  We didn't get anything.

Yesterday, we wanted to go out to the outlet store, but we ended up changing our plan.  Our youngest wasn't feeling good and the temperature was too cold.  Not to mention how windy it was outside at the same time. She had clogged nose the night before and didn't really get enough sleep, so I thought it'd be better for us to hold off for now and just do it this week.  And, I am glad we didn't go out!  The temperature remained very cold the entire day.  As a matter of fact, we had our first flurries/snow shower last night.  It didn't last that long, though, but we still saw a bit of snow on the ground.

Today, the temperature in the morning was below freezing.  By midday, it was already up in the 40s.  It keeps going up and down, up and down.  Maybe that's one reason people get sick during this time of the year.  I honestly am starting to come down with a cold, but I'm battling it off by drinking a lot of water and juice.  I cannot get sick!  If I get sick, everybody will end up getting sick, too, and I don't want that to happen.  It's tough having a sick child.  How much more if 3 of them get sick at the same time!?

I'm just making sure we all stay warm even if we're inside the house all the time.  Most of the day, we're in our PJs.  It's more comfortable and we stay warm even if I have to turn off the heater to give it a break.  To others, this type of weather and temperature may be normal.  But to me, it's weird.  I honestly don't remember it being like this last year, or the year before that.  I don't know.  I guess I'm also overreacting because I am not used to this.  All I know is, it's darn cold, and my body hates it!

WW: My First Winter - with Snow..

3 Sweet Notes
Winter 2010

First ever snow encounter.  It didn't snow a lot on that day,  but there was enough to cover our driveway.  I tried helping my husband shovel, but he made me stop because I almost slipped.  I was 3 months pregnant with our youngest at the time, and I know I scared him to death when that happened.  I got scared, too!  Since then, he never let me shovel snow anymore.  But he'd let me go out with him while he shoveled, and I played.  I haven't really tried making a big snowman, and I know I should have.  Being pregnant at the time, and having an infant last year, I really didn't feel like being outside long enough to make a good size snowman.  But I think I'm going to do it this year with the kids.  At least all 3 of them can play in the snow now with me.  It's going to be our last winter here, so we all might as well make the most of it.  We still don't know where my husband will be stationed next year.  We might be transferred to a place that doesn't snow during winter, or a place that gets cold even before winter actually starts.  That, we don't know.  But I'm not worried about it right now.  We'll find out when we do.  And I'll tell you.
